Cross-cultural influence of dominant culture through the eyes of kids figurines.
It is was a social experiment using these figurines. I had to borrow all of the figurines from our friends who have a 4-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl. The boy had very little toys to be found. The girl had so many more toys with everything being very stereotypical gender based. The Barbie Dolls were the most surreal for me.
Having never really witnessed or played with Barbie Dolls before, I was surprised at how perfect and proper they were. I was really happy to have found “Irish Dancer Barbie,” what a great example of cross-cultural influence of dominant culture. The traditional Irish dancer is but a novelty here in America. In Ireland it stands for the historical context of the old cultural society, even in modern day Ireland the Irish dancer is not as prominent as they used to be.
